September 27/28

The Team started Fall Fling and ended the Tour of Illinois and Wisconsin in great form.  On Saturday the team placed 6 riders in the top 20 in the Road Races.  In CAT 4, Jason Torres placed an amazing 2nd, followed by Dennis Sandquist in 8th and Albierto Pineda in 12th.  Brian Akers finished 22nd after giving Jason a great lead out.  Unfortunately, Alex Bolivar was DQed for a questionable centerline violation.  With these results, Dennis and Jason clinched first and second place in the Tour of Illinois and Wisconsin.  In the CAT 1/2/3 race, Tomasz Boba took 5th place (CAT 1/2); David Polin took 8th (CAT 1/2); and Derric Ungaro took 12th (CAT 3).  Midway through the race, Tomek and Derric joined an eight man brake away.

At the Sunday Criteriums, all 7 WDT starters, finished in the top 20.  In CAT 4, Alex Bolivar finished in 3rd, followed by Dennis Sandquist in 5th, Jason Torres in 7th, and Brian Akers in 16th. Alex and Brian were active establishing and closing brakes throughout the race.  At one point, Brian was on a solo flier for several laps.  In CAT 3, Derric Ungaro finished in 9th and Voytek Glinkowski finished in 10th.  In CAT 1/2, Tomasz Boba finished in 6th.

After the first weekend of racing, several WDT riders including Jason Torres and Tomasz Boba should be at the top of the overall Fall Fling standings.

Thanks to two new team members, WDT had a good showing at the ABR Masters Nationals. In the Masters 40+ Division, Alex Bolivar was in two man break for nearly 7 miles.  The break was caught with 3.5 miles to go.  Alex recovered from the effort and finished sixth on the line.  In the Masters 30+ Division, Brian Akers, who is still developing his road racing and criterium skills, finished in 7th place.
