AUGUST 2008 NEWS
August 22nd and 23rd
WDT cleaned-up in track and time trial events this weekend, while holding its own at criterium and road race events. Track specialist Jeff Michaels placed first in the 40+ division in the 1k time trial and 3k pursuit at the ABR National Track Championships in
Kenosha. Voytek Glinkowski, Reed Oliff, and Doug Peterson each placed first in their respective divisions at the Chicago Time Trial Series in Willow Springs. Maciek Kurka placed 4th in the 30+ division. Mean while, at the Illinois State Road Race Championships, Tomasz Boba placed 3rd in the Pro 1/2 race and Voytek Glinkowski placed 4th in the 30+ division. Chris Gola placed 9th in CAT 3 at the Rum Village Criterium in
South Bend
Indiana. Several other riders, including Adam Luken who grabbed two primes, had great races finishing with the pack. Team Member Chris Wiatr placed 3rd in his division at the Chicago Accenture Triathlon.

Preliminary team results for August 13th to 17th are now posted. The races covered are the Grayslake Cycling Classic, Illinois State Masters Track Championships, Bryce Master 20k Individual TT, Glenco Grand Prix, Wolfgang Freitag Memorial 50k Two-Man TTT, and the biggie - the Downers Grove National Championships.
Highlights from the two weekends include, Derric Ungaro and Doug Peterson winning the 50k Two-Man TTT, and Doug Peterson winning the 20k Individual TT. Tomasz Boba placed second in CAT 2 at the Downers Grove National Championships. Jason Torres had his best ever day racing at the Grayslake Cycling Classic. He placed 4th in the Masters 30/40+ Division right behind 3rd place finisher Voytek Glinkowski. He then went on to finish 2nd in the CAT 4 Elite race. At the Illinois State Masters Track Championships, Reed Oliff pulled a 3:51 in the 3,000 meter pursuit and a 1:14 in the kilo. When the final results are available, these times may net Reed and the team a couple additional wins for the season.

Back on July 19th and 20th, Jeff Michaels quietly won three events at the 23rd Annual Central States Track Masters Weekend. According to the ABR Race Report, "Speedster Jeff Michaels [had a] great Kilo, 3k pursuit and a good 200 [that] outclassed the competition."
These victories bring the total number of wins for WDT to 33 for the season.
August 1 - 3, 2008
WDT-Allvoi started August with a full frontal assault on the
Chicago area race scene with riders competing in the Wisconsin State Track Championships, the Tour of Elk Grove, and the ABR Elgin Cycling Classic.
At the Wisconsin State Track Championships and National Qualifiers, Jeff Michaels won the 3000 Meter Pursuit with a time of 3:04.50. He also won the1000 Meter (Kilo) with a time of 1:10.85.
The Team's highlight for the Tour of Elk Grove came from none other than Tomasz Boba. In Saturday's CAT 3 race, Tomasz won both primes as well as the race. Tomasz has been awarded an upgrade to USCF CAT 2. In Saturday's CAT 4 race, Adam Luken finished in an impressive 8th place, in his second race of the season, followed by Dennis Sandquist (14th) and Jason Torres (21st). Voytek Glinkowski, Albierto Pineda, Maciek Kurka, and Reed Oliff finished in the pack. In his only criterium race of the season, Reed entered the final turn second wheel only to be forced off the course when the lead rider skidded out. In CAT 5, Cezary Mudrewicz finished 5th and 17-year old Chris Wiatr finished 6th.
In Sunday's masters division races, Chris Gola provided the team's best result with a top 20 finish in the Master's 3/4 Division. Other finishers included Jason Torres and Voytek Glinkowski. Five team members competed in the Tour of Elk Grove Charity Time Trial. The team's top finisher was Derric Ungaro, who placed 5th. Derric was followed by Reed Oliff (6th), Doug Peterson (7th), Jason Torres (9th), and Voytek Glinkowski (12th).
At the ABR Elgin Cycle Classic, Tomasz Boba placed 5th in CAT 3 and Adam Luken placed 5th in CAT 4. In CAT 4, Dennis Sandquist placed 13th after missing the leading group of 11 riders following a crash. Derric Ungaro finished 9th in the Masters 30+ Division.
