MAY 2008 NEWS

May 31st & June 1st

The cycling season is in full speed.  WDT had a great weekend of racing in Winfield.  Richard Adamczyk kept the team's winning streak alive.  He won the Twilight Criterium Master 50+ event with a passionate sprint.  Richard has hit his form and this is his first win for the 2008 season.

Several additional team members had great races, which can not always be confirmed only by winning.  For starters, Tomazs Boba, as usual, posted impressive results.  He placed 2nd on Saturday and 4th on Sunday in CAT 2/3.  Both races featured tough, tough fields and Tomasz performed great.  On Saturday, Tomasz was on a 2-man chase pursuing a solo breakaway rider, who they caught with two laps to go.  Then the game of cat and mouse began and Tomasz just missed the sprint victory.

Kris Kuttler also completed great races.  In the same tough CAT 2/3 races with Tomazs, he placed 10th on Saturday and 11th on Sunday.  Kris is back from his cycling injury.

Dennis Sandquist had the best performance of his "cycling life" on Sunday, when he placed 4th.  Combined with his 8th place finish on Saturday, he should still be at the top of the TOI/W point standings for CAT 4.

WDT team members Maciek Kurka, Voytek Glinkowski, Chris Gola, and Albeiro Pineda all contributed to a great weekend of racing in Winfield.  Complete results are available from ABD:

WDT won an amazing three races and took two additional podium finishes this weekend.  At the USCF Vernon Hills Grand Prix, Tomasz Boba won the CAT 3 race and Voytek Glinkowski won the Masters 30+ event.  AT the ABR Kenosha Crit, Jason Torres won the CAT 4 race; Richard Adamczyk placed 2nd in the Masters 50+ event; and Doug Peterson placed 3rd in the Masters 30+ event.  Tomasz is on fire. This was his 7th win of the 2008 season.  It was Voytek's second win of the season.  This was Jason's first ever career race win.  What a day for Tomasz, Voytek, Jason, and the entire team.

The Vernon Hills Grand Prix sported large fields in all race categories.  The CAT 3, CAT 4, and Masters 30+ events all contained at least 60 racers.  But the racing was safe with no major crashes.  By comparison, the Kenosha Criterium featured relatively small fields.  The WDT CAT 4 racers took advantage of the situation to work on team strategy.  Maciek Kurka helped set the pace throughout the race and Dennis Sandquist provided Jason a strong lead out for his final sprint to victory.
